This is a paper about a specific threat to investment performance – land tenure risk – which 

imperils investments in mining, energy, agriculture and forestry projects across emerging market
economies (EMEs).

It is our second examination of this problem. The first, The Financial Risks of Insecure Land Tenure:
An Investment View, demonstrated that companies and their investors can face substantial risks
when they overlook or underestimate the land tenure contestation in rural areas.
