Khoisan community urged to take action on land claims

The Rural Development and Land Reform Department has urged the Khoisan community to lodge land claims like everybody else. This follows claims made by the Khoisan that their land has been taken away in violation of their human rights. They made the allegations during the Human Rights Commission hearings into alleged human rights violations of South African indigenous Khoisan communities held in Johannesburg.


The Khoisan communities claim they have no access to land including basic services. They approached the Human Rights Commission to air their grievances. However, Thami Mdontswa from the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform says people who lost their land from June 1913 have just over three years left to lodge a claim with the department.
