Second phase of land audit to be completed

The second phase of an audit into state-owned land is expected to be completed by September 2015, according to the ANC’s National General Council 2015 discussion documents.
A section on rural development and land reform states that phase one of the Land Audit, which was commissioned in 2010, has already been completed and made public.
The government states that while conducting the audit it faced challenges and found that South Africa’s land management system was too fragmented.
It found that 7% of land ownership in former Bantustans could not be determined during the land audit due to unsurveyed land at household level, and some for Transkei, Mpumalanga and Limpopo were surveyed at administration level but not registered, making it difficult to get information on race and gender.
