Are South Africa’s property rights under risk?

The Department of Public Works (DPW) maintains that the amendments to certain legislation impacting property rights should not create widespread anguish, as this is merely an exercise to align various clauses to the Constitution.   

The legislation raising temperatures is the amendment to the Expropriation Bill of 1975 (Expropriation Bill), the introduction of the Property Valuation Bill of 2014 (Valuation Bill) and the Promotion and Protection of Investment Bill of 2013 (Investment Bill). 

All three bills have been passed, but there’s no indication as to when they will be operational.
