Traditional leaders unhappy with Land Claims Commission
Traditional leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with the Commission on Restitution of Land Claims. President of the Congress of Traditional Leaders, Setlamoraho Thobejane, has rejected the commission’s claim that it has settled 98% of the 80 000 claims submitted. He says in some cases, land has been returned to Communal Property Associations and not traditional leaders. He says the Land Restitution Act should be amended.
“We want to register dissatisfaction; we waited for more than 22 years and today our people are still (waiting) … we are very disappointed in the way the commission has been working to date.”
