US company to open R80 million solar panel production facility in Cape Town

Cape Town will be the new base of US solar panel manufacturer Jinko Solar, as the firm announced that it will be opening a R80 million 120 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) module production facility in the Mother City.

Jinko Solar is no stranger to South Africa. Last year it supplied 304kW of high-efficient solar PV modules to one of the largest roof-mounted PV Solar plants in South Africa.

“South Africa is becoming a leader in renewable energy. Within the space of three years the REIPPP (renewable energy independent power producer procurement programme) model is fast developing into a new industry sector,” Trade and Industry minister Rob Davies said.
