Department approves funding for emerging farmer projects

MULTIMILLION-rand funding for emerging black farmers has been approved by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. 

Thirty-one projects valued at R146m have been earmarked for farm recapitalisation. Land was acquired across all nine provinces under the Proactive Land Acquisition Strategy. “This development was expected to benefit 5‚108 applicants‚” the department said in a statement. A further amount of R58m was spent on 13 land acquisitions. “We want to give people a chance who can create jobs and farm effectively. We do not want weekend farmers‚ they neglect farms‚” said Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti.
