Families compensated for their land

Three Pretoria families were awarded more than R200 000 each by the commission of restitution of land rights on Monday. The money was officially handed to them during a ceremony at the Pretoria offices of the commission.

Chief director of the commission Cindy Benyane said although the financial compensation would not take awy the pain of their loss, it was intended to make their lives easier. “Use it wisely. This money is for you to better your lives, do not misuse it.”

She advised those attending to spread the word that people should not hesitate to lodge a claim to land they believed they were entitled to.
