Land claims threaten state’s forestry company

RAMPANT illegal land occupation and a fraught land claims process could jeopardise the viability of the South African Forestry Company (Safcol), the Department of Public Enterprises said in Parliament last week.
The tension between land earmarked for development, and the demand for housing and farming could derail Safcol’s investment plans. The department said communities’ access to agricultural land needed to be resolved for state-owned Safcol to ensure its operations ran smoothly and were sustainable.
