Nationwide Public Hearings Have Assisted Committee to Strengthen Esta
The Portfolio Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform is satisfied with inputs made by farm workers, farm-dwellers and non-governmental organisations regarding the Extension of Security of Tenure (ESTA) Amendment Bill. The Committee is currently processing the Amendment Bill and has hosted nationwide public hearings with relevant stakeholders, with the last hearings taking place in Upington, Northern Cape, yesterday.
“The valuable insights we have gained from these interactions will ensure that we strengthen the Act so that it protects the most vulnerable. The Committees’ main intention is to have an effective law that serves its purpose. The personal stories we have heard will ensure that we tailor the law for this purpose,” said Committee Chairperson Ms Phumuzile Ngwenya-Mabila.
