South Africa’s New Land Bill Likely To Displace Over 17 Million People
Land redistribution has continued to be one of South Africa’s most challenging issues with the Zuma led government yet to come to terms with a new land bill that would be welcomed by all races in the country. Redistribution is the most important component of land reform in South Africa. Initially, land was bought from its owners (willing seller) by the government (willing buyer) and redistributed, in order to maintain public confidence in the land market. But a new land bill which is now open for public comment has been described as one that would likely leave over 17 million people homeless if adopted.
