CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD​

Dr Johan Van Zyl

Dr Johan van Zyl is the co-CEO of African Rainbow Capital as well as the CEO of UbuntuBotho Investments.

He previously served as group CEO of Sanlam for a period of 12 years. He holds a PhD in Economics and a DSc in Agricultural Economics and has worked as a professor of agricultural economics and consulted for the World Bank. He was vice-chancellor of the University of Pretoria from 1997 to 2001.

Sonja De Bruyn

Sonja de Bruyn is a co-Founder and Principal Partner of Identity Partners, a women led investment, advisory and financing firm.

She has 20 years’ experience in financial services having studied Law, Business and Economics. She served on the Boards of FirstRand, Anglo American Platinum, and Mr Price Group, and is currently a Non-Executive Director of Ethos, RMB/RMI Holdings, Discovery Group and Remgro.

Grant Gelink

Grant Gelink was CEO and Head-Consulting Division at Deloitte Human Capital Corporation, Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Santam Limited and Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte & Touche (South Africa).

He served as Chairman of the African Children’s Feeding Scheme and is on the board of various other companies.

Rojie Kisten

Rojie Kisten serves on various boards as an independent non-executive director, including the Cookhouse Renewable Energy Wind Fund, Assupol Holdings and the African Leadership Network. She is a Trustee of the Imam Abdullah Haroon Trust.

She has extensive experience in asset management, local and international capital raising for unlisted funds, stakeholder management within South Africa and the rest of the African continent, and in investor relations and managing enterprise development finance. She is the chairperson of the Cookhouse Community Windfarm Trust.

Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana

Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana is a bishop of the Ethiopian Episcopal Church.

He was an activist in the anti-apartheid Black Consciousness Movement and is currently the General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches (SACC). He is the chairperson of the South African government’s ministerial advisory committee on social behavioural change and has worked for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as Regional Director of Africa Programs.

Futhi Mtoba

Futhi Mtoba is the founder of TEACH South Africa.

She currently serves as the Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chairman of the Public Investment Commissioners (PIC) and a director of South32 Limited, a Lead Independent director of Discovery Bank Holdings and Discovery Bank Limited. Her previous leadership positions include former chairperson of the Board of Deloitte Southern Africa, past president of Business Unity South Africa (the first woman and remain only, to hold the role), past president (and first woman president) of the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of Southern Africa and the past Chair of Council of the University of Pretoria and the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the National Education Collaboration Trust. She is a 2017 Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow and Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellow (AGLN).

Peter Setou

Peter Setou obtained his law degree (B Juris) from the University of the Western Cape.

He has attended a number of management development programs including an Executive Leadership Programme with the University of Cape Town. He has held several prominent positions over the years, including with the North West Consumer Council, National Department of Welfare and Population Development, Micro Finance Regulatory Council and National Credit Regulator, Stanford Holdings, as well as a lecture with the Centre for Financial Inclusion (University of Pretoria). He has served on several committees of the South African Law Reform Commission. He is the Chief Executive of the Vumelana Advisory Fund (RF) NPC.

Brian Whittaker

Brian Whittaker has served on the boards of several organisations directed at promoting social and economic development, including the Human Resource Development Council.

He is past Chairman of the Jobs Fund Investment Committee. His portfolios concentrate on creating sustainable commercial partnerships, jobs and skills development.
